The halley space launched in the middle of the global pandemic last summer. With everyone so accustomed to working at home, we questioned whether there would be a need for a space like ours anymore. Did Covid mean the death of physical interactions? However as loneliness levels and people's sense of isolation increased, the need for community and a space for people to gather (when they could) became more than apparent.

In honour of Mental Health Awareness Week, we have compiled a list of five reasons why joining a space like the halley can make you happier and improve your mental health.

1. Community Support

Throughout the pandemic, global online content consumption doubled. We saw online communities emerging like never before. However, when faced with this reality, we can’t help but be reminded of the Disney film Wall-e and the obese humans sitting on their hovering seats, eyes glued to their computers. Is this really our future? Confined to our screens and never being in front of people again or experiencing meaningful IRL connections? The simple answer is no. Humans are sociable creatures that crave interaction, and no amount of fancy VR tech can replace this. It is for this reason that fundamentally, community spaces exists.

2. Flexible working is the future

After a year of working from home, many of us are starting to feel fatigued and burnt out. We all are desperate to escape the four walls we call home. No one can deny the benefits of homeworking, but everyone also admits that 5 days commuting to the office is no longer necessary. We believe balance is the key, so we encourage a flexible ‘hybrid’ model with the halley membership. Work where you want, when you want, using the halley as a base a few days a week. You have a new home and no financial pressure of long-term lease and commitments.

3. Productivity

It is easy to underestimate the cost and hassle of setting up a long-term home office. We will take all of this off your hands: fast wifi, ergonomic furniture, good lighting (essential!), a creative design to encourage the most productive work, to name but a few. Not to mention an on-site team, dedicated to providing the best possible experience for you. All you have to do is rock up with your laptop and you’re good to go! Bonus: good quality coffee from Cafe Route discounted with your membership!

4. Creativity

You can find creative inspiration in many corners of the halley. Whether you are brainstorming with your team in one of our meeting rooms, having an inspiring conversation with a fellow member at one of our workshops, or simply feeling motivated and inspired by the canal side setting, it is hard to match that at home. Some of the best creative ideas are born from face to face interactions and a different space to kickstart your creative juices.

5. Opportunities

Working at the halley can open many opportunities for collaboration and unlock value for your work and personal life. Having options can help you scale up your business or even land your dream job. At the halley, our focus is to build a community with like-minded people that share the same interests. We seek to create great opportunities and collaborations within our community.

People like people and a feeling of physical community among the presence of others. Community spaces are an ideal hub for this. Now more than ever, a sense of community, collaboration and support is vital as we emerge from a very difficult year. Spaces like the halley provide business connections, support, and networking, or simply just a familiar friendly face to chat to at the weekly social to increase your wellbeing.
