With the end of the year just around the corner(!), we're truly in the season of gifting, socialising and entertaining. Here at the halley we’re feeling festive, with decorations and mince pies on tap. To get you prepared and give you ideas, we’ve made a shortlist of our favourite stores to support the final Black Pound Day of 2021.

Bag De Vie is a small business creating handmade gifts and decorations. We recently added some festive cheer to the halley space and had Bag De Vie create some custom tree ornaments and were really impressed with them! They arrived quickly and sparkled for the camera. We can't wait to get them out again next year.

This family-owned business specialises in gifts inspired by their travel experiences across the continent of Africa. Collaborating with creatives, artisans, farmers, and producers, many of their products are naturally based, eco and environmentally friendly, and sustainably produced and maintained. We recommend looking at their range of luxury or FSC eco-friendly gift wrapping for all your Christmas wrapping needs!

If you’re a rum drinker then we love the look of Flat Cap Drinks. A family-owned rum business, with roots that stem from Burnt Savannah Westmoreland, Jamaica, a mere 4000 miles to South London. Perfect for a Christmas tipple, adding to a hot chocolate for a festive kick, or of course, gifting to your favourite rum aficionado.

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a candle recommendation, would it? This year we're hoping for a hand-poured candle inspired by the joint Nigerian heritage of founders, Ebi and Emmanuel. Taking inspiration from the sensory overload of colours, textures, and unforgettable people, we particularly like the Christmas gift guide, suitable for all price ranges and filled with decor ideas. All of their candles are vegan and cruelty-free - they also have in-person workshops if you're reading this from Aberdeen.

A subscription magazine is a gift that keeps on giving throughout the year. Sadé Magazine is an independent quarterly print publication with inspiring and sophisticated editorial. It’s perfect for the confident reader and those who want to take on new challenges. Each issue leans on topics ion history, arts, science and general knowledge and is specially designed to inspire and empower Black girls.
