We’re pleased to announce Selextorhood as our November Grassroots Programme.

Who are Selextorhood?

Born out of an inherent imbalance and the glaring underrepresentation of women and gender minorities in the music scene, Selextorhood embarked on its journey in 2019 as a series of monthly DJ workshops. Over time, it has organically evolved into a vibrant community deeply rooted in Birmingham, committed to empowering and uplifting women and gender minority DJs and producers.

As the past three years have unfolded, Selextorhood has displayed remarkable adaptability in the face of various challenges. Today, it thrives in both the online and offline realms, providing a multifaceted platform for its members.

In the heart of Birmingham, Selextorhood hosts regular social gatherings and educational events that revolve around the experiences and aspirations of women and gender minorities. The community extends its reach through online channels, offering production courses to a broader audience.

Operating autonomously and driven by a collective spirit, Selextorhood aspires to be a catalyst for transformation within the music industry. Together, its members have embarked on a quest to define what safety in music venues means to them, striving to instigate positive changes in the behavior of the industry as a whole. Their ongoing discussions revolve around finding ways to ensure that everyone can partake in the art of DJing without compromising their safety.

During the month of November, they’ll be hosting a series of events at The Halley. Let’s take a closer look at what’s on...
